What is Fearless Friday?

For those who haven’t joined us for Fearless Friday before, let me explain how it works:

  1. We Activate Hard Mode: First, we head over to Wordle’s settings and switch on hard mode. That means no easy words or backing down—once we have a letter in place, every guess after must use it.

  2. We Choose a Tough Starting Word: Next, we start with an intentionally suboptimal word, often suggested by a viewer or taken from our classic Hard Word Challenge series.

This week’s Fearless Friday starting word was recommended by my friend Randy Atwood. Randy suggested we kick things off with the word “fuzzy”—a delightful nod to the comic strip Get Fuzzy (and yes, I might’ve accidentally mixed up “Fozzie” and “Fuzzy” once or twice…oops!).

Guess #1: Starting with “Fuzzy”

So, we began with “fuzzy.” And wouldn’t you know it, despite expecting a total blank, we hit a tiny jackpot: we got the letter Y, in the correct final position! If you see a green letter on your first guess in hard mode, it’s a sign it might be your lucky day!

Guess #2: Going with “Ready”

With that Y in place, I knew the next step was to pack as many common letters around it as possible. I took a look at my keyboard and instantly spotted R, E, A, and D. That led me to the word “ready”—a solid guess with great potential.

And then, the moment of truth: Is the answer “ready”?

The Answer Revealed: Yes, It’s “Ready”!

Bam! There it was—ready was indeed the answer! Not only did we solve it, but we did it in just two guesses on a Fearless Friday! I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling pretty lucky. This might just be the moment to grab a lottery ticket!

Why It Worked

The key strategy here was recognizing that once you have the letter Y in the last position, pairing it with the most common preceding letters can be incredibly effective. R, E, A, and D are all strong contenders, and they just happened to be the perfect match this time.

But let’s be real—there was a lot of luck involved, too. So, while strategy matters, sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

Thanks for tuning in to this epic Fearless Friday! If you were playing along, let me know in the comments how you did. Did you manage a two-guess solve as well, or did you take a few extra rounds? Either way, I love hearing about your experience.

Tomorrow’s Starting Word: “Young”

Tomorrow, we’re bringing in a little wisdom with the word “young” as our starting word. Age is just a number, folks, and so is the number of guesses it takes to solve a Wordle puzzle!

Thanks for joining me, and I’ll see you tomorrow for more Wordle fun. Remember, you never know what surprises Fearless Friday might hold—until next time!
