Today Wordle No. 1431 Hints & Answer for May 20, 2025

Well, hello everyone! It’s Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and as always, I’m bringing you another round of our daily Wordle adventure. Today’s game starts with a thoughtful suggestion from a fellow Wordler—Zam9842—who writes in:

“You could try rainy as a starting word in May to commemorate the rain in May.”

Now, I love that. After all, April showers may bring May flowers, but let’s not forget—it still rains plenty in May, especially here in the southeast. So with that seasonal spirit in mind, let’s jump into the puddles and kick things off with the word rainy.

Today's Wordle Hints – May 20, 2025

General Hints:

  • The word contains two vowels.

  • The 'R' is in the third position.

  • The 'N' is in the fourth position.

  • It ends with the letter ‘E’.

  • Think of something you definitely don’t want to catch from a restaurant!

Example-Based Hints:

A Health Scare at Dinner: You go out for a meal, enjoy some undercooked meat, and the next day you’re not feeling so great. A trip to the doctor reveals you’ve come down with a case of ________ illness. What’s the missing word?

The Spy Connection: Remember those action-packed films starring a certain highly-skilled secret agent whose last name was the same as today’s answer?

Southeast Rain Reminder: It’s May, it’s rainy, and it’s the perfect season for this word to sneak its way into your vocabulary—especially if you’ve eaten something questionable during all those rainy-day takeouts.

Today's Wordle Answer:

If you don't want the today's wordle answer spoiled please don't read until you've played wordle! if you want the answer then keep reading to see the answer Having said that let's start solving the wordle of the day!

First Guess: Rainy

An excellent opener. From rainy, we get an ‘R’ out of position and an ‘N’ in position—specifically, in the fourth spot. We’ve tested out ‘A’ and ‘I’, so vowels left on the table are ‘E’, ‘O’, and ‘U’.

Second Guess: Prone

Here’s where my thinking shifted quickly. I liked the idea of placing ‘R’ in the second position and slotting in that missing vowel—‘O’—right in the middle. The word prone not only made solid use of potential placements but also happens to describe how I feel when I make mistakes—prone to them! The guess was strategic, and it paid off. The result? We now know the correct positions of ‘R’ in spot three, ‘N’ in spot four, and ‘E’ in the final position.

Third Guess: Borne

With the information we have—R in the third spot, N in the fourth, and E at the end—the structure _ _ R N E began forming in my head. I thought about placing ‘O’ in the second spot, and the word borne came to mind. But then I thought—wait, what about Bourne? Like Jason Bourne from the spy thriller series. Or if you’re thinking of food—foodborne illness. Slightly grim, I know, but it fits the pattern.

And just like that...

Today's Wordle Answer: Borne

Yes! Three guesses and we’ve cracked it! Borne is today’s Wordle solution. Whether it reminds you of secret agents, unpleasant meals, or just rainy-day wordplay, it’s a strong finish.

Tomorrow’s Word

For Wednesday’s puzzle, we’ll be starting with the word maybe—a versatile pick and a little nod to the indecisiveness that defines the middle of the week. We’ve had a lot of great starting word suggestions lately, and I appreciate every single one of them.

Thanks so much for joining me today—and I’ll see you tomorrow for some more Wordle!
