First Connection: "Cowboy" in Film and Music

One of the first patterns that stood out to me was related to cowboy references in film and music:

  • Rhinestone Cowboy

  • Midnight Cowboy

  • Drugstore Cowboy

  • Space Cowboy

This felt like a strong grouping, and sure enough, I was correct! The category was "Words before 'Cowboy' in Film and Music." A solid start!

Second Connection: Symbols of Luck

Next, I noticed a collection of words associated with good luck:

  • Shamrock

  • Horseshoe

  • Penny

  • Ladybug

These are all commonly believed to bring fortune, and sure enough, they formed the yellow category: "Things Associated with Good Luck." Another successful connection!

Third Connection: Compound Words with "To-"

Now, things got trickier. I focused on some words that seemed to follow a compound word pattern:

  • Toolbox

  • Sunset

  • Towboat

  • Toll booth

  • Tomboy

I initially included Sunset, but after some trial and error, I realized that Tomboy was the key word. The correct grouping was:

  • Toll booth

  • Toolbox

  • Towboat

  • Tomboy

These were compound words that start with "To-", which made up the green category: "Compound Words Beginning with 'To-'"—a tricky one!

Fourth Connection: Broadway Musicals

The final set of words left were:

  • Phantom

  • Merrily

  • Sunset

  • Fiddler

I recognized these as references to Broadway musicals:

  • Phantom (Phantom of the Opera)

  • Merrily (Merrily We Roll Along)

  • Sunset (Sunset Boulevard)

  • Fiddler (Fiddler on the Roof)

This completed the blue category: "Broadway Musicals (Familiarly)."

Final Thoughts

This was a challenging but rewarding puzzle! The trickiest part was the compound word structure in the green category, but overall, I felt pretty good about my performance. I’d say I scored three and a half out of four, since I recognized the compound words but missed the exact pattern.
